National biofortification programs

Definition

This indicator highlights countries where national policies and programs support biofortified crop production and/or consumption.

Relevance

Biofortified crops have been bred using traditional methods to deliberately increase nutrient content. Current evidence suggest that consumption of biofortified crops may reduce micronutrient deficiencies in at-risk populations.

Treatment of Missing Values

Countries with missing data do not have policies or programs supporting biofortified crops or are countries for which no evidence indicating policies regarding biofortified crops could be identified from the survey or desk review.
