Percent of rice that is industrially processed

Definition

Proportion of rice in a country that is industrially processed.

Relevance

The proportion of a fortified food that is industrially processed represents the opportunity for fortification, due to the presence of modern automation, quality control and quality assurance practices, and lower regulatory monitoring resources required by government. Mills must have a production capacity of at least 5 metric tonnes of rice per hour for rice fortification to be feasible.

Additional Information

The Global Fortification Data Exchange also shows the percent of all LSFF food vehicles that are industrially processed per year, available at https://www.fortificationdata.org/quantity-and-proportion-of-food-vehicle-industrially-processed-by-year/
