Lower secondary completion rate

Definition

Lower secondary education completion rate is measured as the gross intake ratio to the last grade of lower secondary education (general and pre-vocational). It is calculated as the number of new entrants in the last grade of lower secondary education, regardless of age, divided by the population at the entrance age for the last grade of lower secondary education.

Relevance

Much like other food systems drivers, lower secondary completion rate can be both a consequence and a modifier of the food system. Secondary education completion rate can relate to the availability of the skilled labor force necessary for certain food production, processing, or retail. Conversely, a food system that perpetuates inequality would likely contribute to lower lower secondary completion rates.
